Fairmont romances the Silk Road

Fairmont Bab Al Bahr
For more than 3,000 years, the Silk Road connected the Mediterranean with Asia along a series of trade routes bringing exotic silks, spices, jewels and other commodities from the Far East into Europe. Then the mean old Mongols messed things up in the 1300s and travel pretty much stopped. In recent years, the route has been revived and Fairmont Hotels has now lined the old route with three new properties.
Besides an Art Deco design and sweeping panoramic views of the Nile River and the pyramids, the Fairmont Nile City in Cairo features 567 rooms with 11,000 sf of space plus 22,000 sf of spa sanctuary at its branded Willow Stream Spa.
The Fairmont Yangcheng Lake is located in Kunshan, China, between Shanghai and Suzhou, on the shores of Yang Cheng Lake. It’s a nice fit for smaller meetings, offering a 4,000-square foot ballroom with a magnificent lake view, outdoor event sites, its own Willow Stream Spa and a huge restaurant featuring Chinese delicacies like Zhoushi soy-sauced duck, duck soup noodles and hairy crab, which they say tastes a lot better than it looks.
In United Arab Emirates, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr has a private sandy beach, 369 elegant rooms, a luxury spa and 27,000 sf of function space. Your attendees should enjoy the spectacular views of the Sheikha Zayed Grand Mosque and easy access to Abu Dhabi City Centre, while you should like the close proximity to the airport for quick transfer. The Fairmont Bab al Bahr also features the first Marco Pierre White Steakhouse & Grill outside of London, helmed by the Michelin-starred chef. - Abel Delgado

Omni Orlando Resort at Championsgate: Game On for Grownups

You may have heard that Orlando has a couple of theme parks that kids seem to like for some reason. Apparently some mouse character is kind of a big deal. Whatever.
What's less known is how much the city offers adults who want a little playtime of their own. A good place to get the game going would be the Omni Orlando. read more

Las Brisas, Ixtapa: Big Yet Boutiquey

When you think "boutique hotel," you usually think small but memorable, like an 8-room former hacienda with lush décor and personalized service. However, Las Brisas Ixtapa has managed to maintain a distinctly boutique feel in spite of offering 416 rooms and nearly 33,000 sf of meeting space. read more

Spacing out in Seward

With more meetings than ever happening in Seward, Alaska, the Seward Windsong Lodge just spaced out—it’s opened a new conference room to complete its recent expansion.
The 1,200-sf River Room accommodates about 80 pax. The style is rustic and romantic, befitting the lodge itself, which is a fantastic jumping-off point for taking day cruises through Kenai Fjords National Park, sea kayaking and glacier hiking—all chill touches for an Alaska program.
The River Room adds to Seward’s Windsong’s 1,800 sf of meeting space in its other room, the Glacier Room. Both offer superb views of the nearby spruce forest or the mountains and Resurrection River. In addition, the lodge now has 180 deluxe rooms (bumped up from 72), wireless Internet throughout, A/V equipment and an onsite restaurant that provides group catering.
While Seward has a small airport, most visitors reach it through the Alaska Railroad, connecting from Anchorage, and it’s a scenic ride through Denali National Park, Denali State Park and Chugach National Forest. A courtesy shuttle will get your group to the lodge itself. Besides Kenai Fjords, Seward’s attractions include The Alaska SeaLife Center - an aquarium with puffins, octopuses and other forms of local marine life, plus glacier sled dog tours, gold rush towns to tour and museums documenting local history.

The Mid-Century Mod Fontainebleau Miami Beach

The opening credits of Goldfinger in 1964 featured a sweeping helicopter shot of Fontainebleau Miami Beach, famous for its crescent moon design, landscaped pool and blisteringly beautiful oceanfront locale. When it was built in 1954, celeb architect Morris Lapidus said, “I don’t care if it’s Baroque or Brooklyn, just get me plenty of glamour and make sure it screams luxury.” Following a $1 billion makeover last year, Fontainebleau has ratcheted up the swankiness level to once again headline Miami’s starstruck hotel scene. read more
